As a refugee from Nazi Germany, Siegmund Spiegel came to the United States in 1938. Shortly before the United States declared war on Germany, he volunteered for the Army to help defeat his homeland which destroyed the lives of his family and so many others. He spent three years overseas, serving in the African, Sicilian and Normandy campaigns. This is Siegmunds poignant, eye-witness account of the war, as experienced by a young immigrant determined to fight injustice.
