Gerald placed the stack of papers into a drawer and stepped around his desk. "I'll just be a moment," he said to his wife, and Louise nodded, her eyes following him as he exited the office, leaving the door open. She then turned her attention to Dean, who was still sitting in his chair, a look of utter gloom on his face.
"Don't worry, I'm sure we can think of something," she reassured him with a smile.
"Yeah... I mean, I know I should've paid closer attention in clazz... I guess."
"But you're trying to set it right now, and that should be commended." Louise got up and straightened her short and elegant cocktail dress, her hands rubbing the fabric tightly down and over her legs. She stepped closer to Dean, then sat herself down on her husband's mahogany desk. Dean's wide eyes followed her movements almost involuntarily; he shifted in his seat uncomfortably as Louise placed a long leg on the arm of his chair and crossed the other over it.
"Um..." he began, but Louise quickly cut him off.
"Look, Dean, my husband is a good man and I'm sure he'd love to help you out. But sometimes he just needs some convincing." She eyed him closely and, noting his cheeks were reddening speedily, smiled. "Are you hot, Dean?"
"Uh, no, I'm - "
"I could open a window."
"No, I should probably - "
"I'll tell you a secret." Louise pinned him down to his spot with her piercing eyes, though Dean was anxious to leave. Again she got up, this time walking to the door and dragging only a hint of her hand over the young man's back as she passed him by; he shuddered at her touch. Resolved to get away before his situation worsens further, Dean quickly hopped up from his chair. As soon as he did, though, the door slammed shut and Louise was looking at him with another sly smile, leaning casually against the door.
"I'll tell you a secret, Dean," she started again, "Gerald is a very jealous man. It's quite amusing, in a way, how easy it is to rile him up. Whenever I want something from him I can use that to my advantage." She sauntered over to him, who couldn't quite help but survey her up and down. "I bet if he caught us fooling around I could just order him to make an exception and give you that 'A'."
Dean's eyes widened even further in his terror and his mind raced to try and make sense of this new development. Louise's gentle smile was unwavering, though, and he quickly realized that she was completely serious.
"Um, Mrs. Young..." he stammered, but again Louise interjected.
"You can call me Louise. I know you're feeling a little confused, Dean, but think about it: one word from me and you can ace this course. But you have to provide me with the leverage."
