As the HORSE CRAZY PALS story unfolds, Mackenzie, the leader and her fellow club members reside around Wigins South Carolina. It is the beginning of their summer break from school and they have a full agenda planned out ahead of them, riding their own personal horses on the secret HORSE CRAZY PALS trail, through the woods and to the lake around Wigins. It appears they'll enjoy a summer filled with not only horseback riding but to lavish each of their horses with the utmost in care and attention.
Another group of kids, the mean kids who also reside in Wigins, have made a kind of secret pact to disrupt the HORSE CRAZY PALS designs and plans for a summer committed to their club and to their horses. Their leader, Luke and his club are intent on turning these do-good-er, spoiled rich kid types summer into a total disaster. But, they haven't considered that because the HORSE CRAZY PALS offer the very best in care, love and attention to each of their horses, that a huge black stallion Midnight is sent to assist them and to thwart the intentions of the mean kids. But Midnight is not what the MEAN KIDS had in mind when they planned out their series of attacks against the HORSE CRAZY PALS.
The HORSE CRAZY PALS series attempts to offer young readers a kind of fairy tale, make-believe story, that is filled with some parts make-believe and also illustrates the challenges our younger generation might face in real life, what might actually occur in today's society. It is also a story that pits good against evil, virtue against the misdeeds of others who seek to devise bad happenings to inherently good kids, a kind of bullying process against those kids less capable of defending themselves. The series of events that unfolds eventually proves the virtuous HORSE CRAZY PALS, with the help of their guardian angel, Midnight, do persevere over the inherently evil, mean kids.
