John Compton hopes the isolation of his new home in Ontario's far north will heal him from the pain of his most recent break-up. Living alone in the old Crane Manor, he'll be free to be his workaholic self, burying into his investigations for the Omega Insurance Company, and forgetting about everything else.

But Stormbridge is a town that holds onto its secrets, including the secret of murdered Sarah Crane, whose ghost intrudes on John's isolation. Sarah's contemporaries at the time of her death are now the movers and doers of the community -- the OPP officer, the real estate agent who looked after the Manor while it was empty, and the man John is tracking for insurance fraud. And at the bottom of it all -- the nasty business of smuggling illegal, big city drugs into small town tranquility.

In the process of doing his job, and facing things about himself he's successfully evaded for years, John shakes loose the town's secrets, and puts a tormented soul to rest.
