Craig is a young and inquisitive crab whose fascination with the world around him gets him into situations which make him feel momentarily frightened but from which he always escapes. The obvious parallel between the young crab and the young read-to child enables the child to recognise the dangers and fun of risk-taking and creates empathy with the character.
