The Black Douglas (1899)-
The fall of the great House of Douglas is the focus of this romance set in 15th century Scotland.

Bog-Myrtle and Peat (1896)
"Here are idyls, epics, dramas of human life, written in words that thrill and burn. . . . Each is a poem that has an immortal flavor. They are fragments of the author's early dreams, too bright, too gorgeous, too full of the blood of rubies and the life of diamonds to be caught and held palpitating in expression's grasp."--Boston Courier.

The White Plumes of Navarre (1906)
The White Plumes of Navarre opens with a dramatic picture of the murder of Admiral Coligny in Paris, and vividly describes the events which led up to the assassination of the Duke of Guise. Henry of Navarre, Philip II of Spain, the Inquisition, the galleys— we see them all. The love of the Abbé John for Claire Agnew is the golden thread of this delightful romance, but the daughter of Philip II is a very fine study.

The Firebrand (1901)
WORLD--"The story of the 'firebrand,' Rollo Blair, a Scottish gentleman-adventurer, and his two incongruous associates, of the Abbot of Montblanch, the kidnapping of the Queen, the outlawry of Ramon Garcia, the outwitting of Cabrera by Rollo, and the doings of the gipsies, is decidedly good."

The Lilac Sunbonnet (1894)
"Mr. Crockett's 'Lilac Sun-Bonnet' 'needs no bush.' Here is a pretty love tale, and the landscape and rural descriptions carry the exile back into the Kingdom of Galloway. Here, indeed, is the scent of bog-myrtle and peat. After inquiries among the fair, I learn that of all romances, they best love, not 'sociology,' not 'theology,' still less, open manslaughter, for a motive, but, just love's young dream, chapter after chapter. From Mr. Crockett they get what they want, 'hot with,' as Thackeray admits that he liked it."--Mr. Andrew Lang

Deep Moat Grange (1907)
The scenes of this love story, involving murder and mystery, are laid in the north of England, "Deep Moat Grange" being an old and much neglected estate near a small village.

Silver Sand (1914)
Historical romance of the youth of John Faa or Silver Sand, "Lord and Earl of Little Egypt," gentleman and gypsy.
