Clayton Hugh Gilbertson always wanted to be a real soldier. Even as a child, all he would dream about was following in his fathers footsteps in becoming a military man. Clayton was all olive drab! From running around his home in Boston, playing backyard war, to his final destination in Vietnam, Michael Flowers takes you on a journey from Claytons early years to his nail-biting adventures with Team 86 in Tan An, in the province of Long An, Vietnam. Follow him as he travels the compounds and the villages of Binh Phuoc and the mined roads and rice dikes of terror. Feel the excitement of being shot at and attacked by the Viet Cong and living with death and killing on a daily basis. Travel through 196869 with a highly decorated soldier that loved his country, loved the army, and above all, loved his family and his God. Weep with him over the soldiers who gave their life and all the innocent children that suffered at the hands of the enemy. Cry with him as he notifies the next of kin here in the United States. Live with him as he reflects at the Black Wall in Washington, DC. Follow him on sweep missions, gunship fights, and night combat, not knowing if he will ever return. His story is one of fear, compassion, faith, strength, and love of country. Clayton Hugh Gilbertson was considered by some as a typical warmonger, but in essence, he was a man that valued human life, even the lives of his enemies. Clayton Gilbertson was one of many who served in Vietnam and returned home, becoming a Senior Army Instructor of the Reserve Officers Training Corp (JROTC) at Benton and Lafayette High Schools in St. Joseph, Missouri, for the next twenty-two years of his life. Clayton shares his personal reflections on war, both good and bad, as seen from the eyes of the battlefield in Vietnam to the political adversities in Washington. Share with him what it was like to come home and be called a baby killer. Walk in the boots of a warrior through an adventure that will remain with you for a long time. Clayton Gilbertson was a warrior with a purpose and a part of this countrys history. Put on your boots and follow this warrior into Vietnam.
