Live the Easy Way - Die the Hard Way
A friend remarks that a local ladrone who is living it up with the putas and booze sure has an easy life! Clint says that people like him who live an easy life usually die a hard death.
Then the ladrone is found tortured to death.
What was behind it?
A Smidgen of Murder
“A generous dollop of fresh creamery butter, a touch of mild curry, a teaspoon of nice fresh basil from my own garden, a little salt, a dash of black pepper, and a taste of culantro!
“Bake for thirty five minutes at three seventy five. Chill, and add a smidgen of murder! Serve over curried chilled cheese pasta.
“Are you going away, with no word of farewell?
“Time to get dressed! I do want to look good for this!”
Dead Aunts
Clint is visiting friends in Culantro on his way to Quebrada Tula when Rigo, a student at the university, says his only problem lately is dead aunts. He is practicing English. Clint asks what could be the problem with dead ants? Sweep them out.
“What killed them? Poison?”
Juan says they were all strangled.
“How do you strangle and ant?” Clint asked, then added, “Oh, shit!”
A Bloody Shame
The regular group sitting in The Golden Grill are discussing the way a local con man had stolen the life savings of a resident from England. They are talking about how the corrupt court system will let him get away with it.
Roland Eggars, himself a Britisher, says the way those people were able to manipulate the judges and police was a bloody shame. Sooner or later someone would come along and put an end to some of their practices.
It was sooner. Someone was chopping the corrupt officials up with a machete.
Did Clint really want to solve this one?
