In this book Maria Seferou vividly describes the early years of her life in Dendron, a semi mountainous picturesque village of Peloponnese Greece, where she was born and spent her childhood. The author shares details about her large family, the primitive way the villagers lived in those years and the poverty and deprivation they endured. She also shares many happy memories from those precious years of innocence, which she cherishes to this day. These memories reveal the love and tender care she and her brothers and sisters received from their parents in spite of their impoverishment.
The book also reveals a few unhappy incidences the author experienced as a child under the German occupation of World War II. Further she mentions the horror of the consecutive bloody civil war, the scars of which, unfortunately, have not yet been healed among Greeks. Alas, those repressed feelings are being exploited to this day by the enemies of Greece, who very well know how to implement the devil’s axiom “Divide and Rule”, in order to serve their own interests.
