Come nightfall, the inhabitants of the ancient castle perched high on the mountain above their picturesque valley would awaken, and then no one left outside the village walls would be safe.

The torches set into the thick stone walls of the castle would be lit, the evening bells would toll—then Lord Callum would release his riders, led by his brother Oleander, an alabaster, screeching creature of nightmares; thundering through the night as he collected his victims.

After one of Oleander's raids unexpectedly breaches the walls of the village, Laramie finds himself face to face with Lord Callum—a dark, majestic beast like none he has ever seen before.

His first glimpse of Lord Callum sets his heart racing, partially out of fear, but mostly out of fascination—and something else, and Callum takes note of that, pleased to have found his next plaything.

What readers are saying:

"This is a very different take on the usual romantic, vampire story. It portrays them in the way that we expect 'real' vampires to behave, living as blood thirsty, lethal killers who view humans as prey. Despite being monsters, these guys can be capable of normal human emotions, they form attachments and fall in love. What makes this different, is the way that vampires of such standing were easily manipulated by their prey and could even be submissive to them once that bond had been formed. This isn't all lovey, dovey. It's gruesome with death for entertainment purposes, copious amounts of blood being consumed, bodies strewn around and a community of people who have been captured and await their fate. The sex scenes aren't too shabby either. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the next instalment."

"I personally just finished this book last night, and frankly I can't get enough of it. What a magnificent and disgusting person Callum was,but still such a dark sexy character... I loved this book, it was well written and I had great difficulty putting it down. I truly cannot wait for the sequel to come out. I'm curious on how the author will continue Timothy and Oleander's evolving relationship, and where the story will take us next, will it stay in the castle or continue in Drumceda. Can't wait to find out!!!!"

"This is an unusual vampire story that doesn't flinch from portraying vampires as bloodthirsty monsters yet still managed to make me feel sympathetic towards the main character. I am going to have to look for more Drakker Coven books to find out what happens next and if the nasty vampire gets his come-uppence."

"It should have come with a bigger warning label than "these vampires do not sparkle". Seriously, it was so disturbing. I'm giving the author props for going there and putting a lot of gore and darkness in the story, but I had to force myself to finish it. I was like a deer caught in the headlights, I wanted to run, but I couldn't. lol."
