BYU Studies volume 47, number 3, is a special issue pertaining to the Mountain Meadows massacre, which took place in southern Utah in 1857. Guest editors Richard E. Turley Jr. and Ronald W. Walker include selections of important documents about the massacre: in 1892, historian Andrew Jenson interviewed Utahns who had information about the massacre. Interviews of Mary S. Campbell, Mary H. White, Ellott Willden, William Barton, Samuel Knight, Richard S. Robinson, and David W. Tullis are included in this issue. The second group of documents was the property of David H. Morris, an attorney living in St. George, Utah. He collected affidavits and statements about the massacre from long time residents as he contact with them in other dealings. Letters from John W. Judd and J. G. Sutherland and statements from Samuel Knight and Nephi Johnson are included.

The complete collections of documents appear in the book Mountain Meadows Massacre: The Andrew Jensen and David H. Morris Collections. This book accompanies the book Massacre at Mountain Meadows, by Ronald W. Walker, Richard E. Turley Jr., and Glen M. Leonard, which provides a narrative of the 1857 events.

This issue also includes two articles about issues (problems with sources and dealing with violence) related to the massacre. Reviews of Massacre at Mountain Meadows and House of Mourning: A Biocultural History of the Mountain Meadows Massacre also are included.
