Max had always been fit, but since walking the post, he had become muscular and toned. In spite of the dreadful weather this year, he was lightly tanned, and had plenty of time after work to play golf. Being an early riser, getting up at three in the morning was no real hardship, and he was usually home by mid-afternoon anyway. The money supplemented his pension nicely, so he did not have to worry about spending. Fortunate indeed! His love life was also settled; sexually, Clare was not as adventurous as his previous partners were but he had no complaints, she was a terrific lay and a quick learner. Max looked forward to marrying, wanting Clare the moment he saw her working as a waitress at the golf club.
