Albert Einstein said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” And Ann Morrow Lindbergh said: “A note of music gains significance from the silence on either side.” Breakdancing on a Balance Beam is all about the music of life and the peace of silence — and finding the equilibrium between the two. The thoughts collected in this book are grouped according to the skills and knowledge I’ve found essential for achieving balance in my life. You don’t have to read it straight through — you can visit it from time to time for perspective, when you need a lift or need to see how someone else has dealt with a similar problem or challenge. You may want to start with a topic in the middle or others at the end. It really doesn’t matter. Balance is about capitalizing on our ups and downs and learning how each of them can teach us life’s lessons. The key is to find what works for you. This book is divided into 11 Chapters, which contain what I call Musings. Webster’s definition of musing (verb) is to become absorbed in thought, or to turn something over in your mind. The ancient Greeks saw a muse (noun) as someone who could reveal knowledge through storytelling. So I have created my Musings as specific stories or occurrences which lead to thoughts and insights that I hope you find helpful in achieving your own balance.
