Displaced by a terrible war that rages across the land, Felix and his son Samuel pack up their meager belongings and travel in search of safety. Having exhausted the last of their coin, Felix seeks out the lady of a noble house and is offered an unexpected boon which will provide Samuel with a secure future while granting him a simple refuge. He thus resigns himself to the fate of a recluse whose lonely days are punctuated only by visits from Cassandra, a beautiful woman with a tender heart and kind soul.
