Norm Slider, author of The Big Green Weenie Up Your A** & Other Poems, is an assistant manager at BOOKsMART, one of a small chain of big-box retail book shops in the Midwest. His shrewish GM, Wanda Kropke, is busy downsizing the staff by attrition, as she makes life at work unbearable for everyone. Norm's personal life is in free fall, too. His problems with booze and women have finally caused his wife Linda to serve him with divorce papers, just as a stripper and would-be porn actress Shauna surfaces from a chance encounter in one of Norm's blackouts. As Norm relocates to a small apartment, his meager reputation as an avant-garde poet draws a young high school fan Brandi, who has sexual designs on Norm. Shauna seeks protection from Norm when her psyco pimp Buster is released from jail, though she fails to share that she has stolen a large stash of Buster's cocaine. BOOKsMART is bought by Global Info Tech, Inc. and taken public and the bean counters and managerial thugs descend.... So begins one of the most hilarious indie novels of a generation. Like Henry Miller, Terry Southern and Charles Bukowski before him, Andis finds laughter at the foot of the gallows. Bookstore is an avant garde noir tale of greed, petty larceny and depraved lust gone astray in a dark comedy of manners.
