The History of the Kings of Britain is a 12th-century work by Geoffrey of Monmouth. It was one of the first accounts of the legend of King Arthur and the Prophesies of Merlin. Some of the stories in this volume also served as the source for Shakespeare's "King Lear"; others discuss the legendary origins of Great Britain.

"Tamerlane" is an epic poem by Edgar Allan Poe, first published in the 1827 collection Tamerlane and Other Poems. That collection, with only 50 copies printed, was not credited with the author's real name but by "A Bostonian." The poem itself follows a Turkic conqueror named Tamerlane....
