Brother Egbert is a medieval monk who spends most of his time in the scriptorium copying out pages from the Bible. That is how Jake, the carpenter's son, learns the story of Jesus' birth. It is a story that inspires Jake and his father as they make a new carving for the abbey church' and that carving inspires Brother Egbert to write this story.
