Inexorablement, la prise se resserrait autour du cou de Malko. En même temps, le "bûcheron" plongea la main gauche dans sa botte et la ressortit, tenant une courte baïonnette de Kalachnikov. Malko sentit les muscles du géant se bander. Il allait le saigner come un porc.

Malko eut l'impression que le fiacre penchait légèrement sur la gauche. Il tourna la tête et son pouls grimpa comme une fusée. Un homme, le visage dissimulé par une cagoule, s'aggrippait de la main gauche à un des montants de la capote. Sa droite brandissait un pic à glace. Malko voulut s'écarter,...

Malko se laissa tomber à terre. La route lui semba tout à coup horriblement loin. Jamais il n'aurait pensé tomber dans un tel guet-apens… Il vit soudain des branches bouger non loin de lui et distingua dans la végétation, le rond noir d'un pistolet braqué sur lui.

Malko commençait à s'angoisser. Au premier embouteillage, la voiture piégée les rattraperait et "boum". La charge moyenne de ces cars-bombs" était une centaine de kilos d'explosifs militaire. De quoi tout pulvériser dans un rayon de cent mètres. L epouls de Malko grimpa vertigineusement....

Une lueur aveuglante se refléta dans le rétroviseur de Malko. La Land-Rover avait mis pleins phares et se rapprochait. Un soldat était debout à l'arrière, derrière le long canon d'une mitrailleuse lourde, les yeux protégés par des lunettes de motocycliste, le bas du visage recouvert d'un foulard....

Malko dut reculer pour éviter d'être coupé en deux et aussitôt le géant glissa le long du mur pour lui couper la retraite. Le Glock était à deux mètres de lui, mais, s'il se baissait, Tawfiq Al Banna lui fendrait le crâne. Les yeux fous, marmonnant des mots indistincts, il balançait sa hache,...

Le premier des tueurs arrivait sur lui, le rasoir haut. Malko esquiva et la lame ne fit que lui entamer légèrement l'avant-bras. Celui qui le tenait répéta : " Rapido ! Rapido !
