Weaving news of the war in Europe with romance at home, this tale of a group of people in Surrey, England is a tale of people who show love, affection, concern, but oftentimes, are downright insulting and mean.  It displays the dichotomy of how cruel but persistently kind people can seem to be.  Well worth the read.
