Bill Green was born in England in 1936. He was evacuated at the outbreak of World War II in 1939. After the war he went to Boarding School and at age seventeen joined the Royal Navy; serving in submarines for 25 years. He now lives in Perth, Western Australia. People who read this book made the following comments:- alex 13 April 2011 I found BILLY one of those rare books you read which you cant stop reading but you dont want to finishI hope Bill Green writes a sequel. elpokid 2 May 2011 BILLY What a great read. The book made me realise how hard and cruel life was during and after the war. My only disappointment was that the book had to come to an end. I found myself rationing my reading time just to stretch out the remaining pages. jobgre 9 May 2011 BILLY This book gives a very descriptive account of how life was for evacuees during World War 2. What is also apparent is that life for the author and his brother were not just hard when evacuated, but did not change when they returned to the care of their father and stepmother. An extremely good read which I would recommend
