Morgan Wilson, a young archaeologist, and his girlfriend Celeste arrive in Mexico City for Morgan to explore the city’s ancient pyramids.

During his exploration he accidentally discovers the ruins of an ancient civilization hidden beneath the pyramid. After a more thorough investigation he wonders if the village could still be inhabited. Suddenly afraid for his safety he searches for a way to escape.

While trapped beneath the pyramid a nuclear explosion with catastrophic effects occurs in Chernobyl, a Russian providence. The near meltdown of the nuclear reactor causes a chain of explosions that reach down to the Earth’s core, slightly reducing the speed at which the Earth rotates.

Before Morgan discloses his find to the world he and Celeste take time to explore and gather artifacts. During their exploration they soon feel that something’s wrong when something rubs against Celeste’s thigh. She stares into the eyes of a deformed creature and her blood turns cold under its close scrutiny.

After the brutal murder of four people, Morgan and Celeste fear that the creatures have escaped their underground domain.

Determined to stop the creatures, Morgan and Celeste team up with some colleagues in preparation to battle with the monsters. Unprepared for the brutality of the creatures Morgan realizes there only defense is to find a way to reverse the effects caused by the nuclear explosion that released the creatures.

Harnessing the sun’s energy, they direct the energy down beneath the pyramid along with some explosives. The explosion that ensues nearly brings the mountain down on top of them.

As the earth slowly picks up speed, the creatures shriek in anger and frustration. They look around in surprise, chattering hysterically back and forth to one another. A dark hole appears above them and one by one the creatures are sucked into it.

Miraculously the pyramids survive unscathed. Morgan, Celeste and Father Damion hurry away from the pyramids eager to keep Morgan’s discovery a secret.
