Beryl was a dark hair, well built woman in her late 40s while Chris was a slim fair hair 19 year old young man. They had met at work. Both of them worked in a small factory with him working on the shop floor while she was part of the office staff. When he first joined the firm, he had been warned about Beryl by his work mates, who informed him she would prey on young men, like him. This didn't worry him because secretly, it sounded like a good idea. The reason was because he was still a virgin and was shy when talking to girls. It seemed so much easier to him to allow Beryl to take the initiative, than to try and chat up a girl of his own age.

The men on the factory floor called her “Beryl the Peril” after a British cartoon character. They also claim she was a ball-breaker, cradle-snatcher, prick-teaser, bitch and witch, but these names never worried her. Unlike most of the office staff, she was comfortable in coming down to the factory floor and talking to the workmen. Their banter never bothered her, as she was as quick witted as the best of them. The men who tried to making jokes at her expense, generally come off second best, because she always had an answer to any wisecrack aimed at her.

Chris was unaware that many girls thought he was a good-looking young man. This lack of understanding of how women saw him caused him to have no confidence when talking with girls of his own age. So he allowed Beryl to chat him up and ignored what his workmates said about her. As he had no objections to having sex with older women and it seemed an easy way for him to lose his virginity. Though he was to find that everything they said about Beryl was completely true.
