Abolition. One man's true story of his struggle to help end slavery. Benjamin Lundy's life was an example for other abolitionists to follow. Slaves would come to him in the dark of the night and plead with him for help. Every waking moment the goal was always before him. Many slaves fled to Canada where Lundy thought the winters were too harsh. However, both he and Frederick Douglass said that they were treated far better in Canada than in the United States. I don't know if their paths crossed but I do know Frederick Douglass's anti-slavery societies used the Bible and the Declaration of Independence the same as Lundy did. Lundy was a mentor to many up and coming abolitionists. His light went out early but it must have still led the way for many to follow, both black and white, who believed in freedom for the slaves.
