When failed psychic Maureen Truscott isn't attending funerals with her neighbour Beattie Hathaway she lives a peaceful life styling her collection of diva wigs and singing along to her back catalogue of Dusty Springfield records. But that has all changes when an attack by a vengeful ghost threatens to expose her criminal past and she unwittingly finds herself forced to take on the might of the nation’s Most Evil Spirit.
With only her widowed friend and neighbour by her side, pensioner Maureen battles against Beattie's scepticism and her own self-doubts, stealing church property, harbouring an illegal immigrant and absconding from the scene of a murder along the way. Unfortunately the lives of both women become even more complicated when Maureen inadvertently produces her first materialisation, coming face to face with a very unwelcomed visitor from her past.

The door between the Living and the Dead is wide open; all Maureen and Beattie have to do is close it. Their only obstacle is celebrity clairvoyant Doris Morris. Determined to become the most powerful medium on earth and Doris will stop at nothing, even her own death, to prevent Maureen succeeding in her quest. Trapped in the ruins of England's Most Haunted House with Doris and her legion of spectral pensioners the stage is set for their final battle. Walls crack, pop socks smoulder and Beattie’s lethal handbag gets covered in whipped cream as the Living and the Dead square up for one last battle.
