John Wilson is an excellent guitarist, who has imparted love of the instrument to his fourteen year old son, Caleb. Despite years of instruction, he is continually frustrated by his inability to master the B chord. His band overcomes this shortcoming by limiting songs with the dreaded chord as Caleb realizes he can never reach his father's level. Tragedy strikes the Wilson family, when John is killed in a hit and run accident forcing Caleb, his mother, and sister, Sydney, to leave Ft Wayne and move to his grandparents' house in Loogootee, Indiana. During preparation for the move, Caleb discovers his father's guitar has mysteriously disappeared. After a last gig with the band at his friend, Jeremy's house, he wanders through the house a final time hoping to find the guitar. He is shocked to discover a music stand in an attic crawlspace. Arriving at his grandparents' Victorian home, he struggles to overcome his despair and sense of hopelessness. His father is dead, the guitar is missing, and leaving his lifelong friends has overwhelmed his emotions. Caleb rekindles a friendship with Jamie Daniels, a girl he had met during visits to his grandparents' house. A series of mysterious events in Ft. Wayne and Loogootee, insert the the two of them into a dangerous situation that threaten Caleb and his family. An unlikely source directs them toward clues that can help them solve the mystery but also increases the danger. How does Caleb convince his family that there is real danger being directed by unseen forces?
