What we may discover is that all along we were the one we were seeking.
Buddhism is one of the most practical and simple belief systems in the whole universe and it can help all living beings and humankind to become a better humans being in every aspect possible. All living beings and humankind can be awakened into Buddhahood to who we really are in order to bring compassion, love, peace and happiness to everyday life.
The Buddha realized that that he was not the first to become a Buddha. "There have been many Buddhas before me and will be many Buddhas in the future," The Buddha recalled to his disciples. "All living beings have the Buddha nature and can become Buddhas." For this reason, he taught the way to Buddhahood.
Yes, Buddha never claimed himself as a god, however, he was a great teacher. When asked if he were a God, Buddha said No. "Then, teacher, what are you?" to which he replied... "I am awake!"
Buddhism is not a religion as such; it does not propose an external God. It does not seek to replace a person’s existing religious beliefs, only to supplement them.
“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” Quotes by Gautama Buddha!
The Buddha held that it was not necessary to believe in gods in order to achieve enlightenment, but that his followers could believe in gods if they wished. A great majority of Buddhists do believe in a creator god, whether the Abrahamic God, or another. It is certainly acceptable within some schools of Buddhism for their followers to believe in God.
