Left for dead behind enemy lines in the early days of the war in Afghanistan, Special Forces Team Leader Sergeant Ryan's life is saved by a young girl, Mysha, and her father and brother. Taken to their farm, and hidden, he slowly recovers, while his friend PFC Murphy is moving heaven and earth to try and mount a rescue. Months pass, and Ryan forms affections for the young Afghani girl, who speaks English because her mother was part British and was a teacher before the Taliban came. Deep wounds, both physical and psychological, cause Ryan great hardships as he is again badly injured during the rescue mission, and subsequently sent for psychological evaluation and rehab because of suspected severe PTSD. Not knowing what happened to the girl causes him great anguish. Suffering with guilt he tries to return back to Afghanistan, but is denied combat deployment because of his condition and instability. While trying to recover on a rehabilitation farm, he is recruited by a Black Ops team, and through them is finally able to return to Afghanistan just before the NATO mission there is ended. Once there, he finds the truth. Of life, love, war, death, and redemption.
