Tasos Dourountakis was born in the small village of Gerani, Chania, Crete in 1940, just a few months before the invasion of the Battle of Crete. The first sounds he remembers hearing from those dark days were those of the German occupation, but this was just the latest in a long line of oppressors and invaders to his beautiful island.

Anezina and Me, tells the stories handed down from father to son of the history of Gerani and the Dourountakis family. Tasos is a master storyteller and his recollections of his family history from the times of the Turkish occupation at the heart of the Ottoman Empire through to the fight for independence, subsequent adoption by Greece and then on to the Second World War will capture your heart and soul.

It is also a story of love, heartbreak and a yearning of young men to better themselves and build a better future for their families and their country.
