The ICC issued a warrant for the arrest of Sudanese president Omar Al-Bashi in 2009. He is wanted for allegedly directing a campaign of mass killing, rape, and pillage against civilians. Over the years he has avoided arrest as the war in Sudan continues. In 2015 he visited South Africa to attend the African Union summit. As a member of ICC South Africa should have arrested him but he was allowed to return to Sudan.
