Suddenly, my team finishes the project that we're working on and the application is a huge hit! I'm invited to a company victory party and I maybe see a way out of the unfortunate situation in which I find myself.
I talk with my sister and she tells me that one Monica has the face and the brains to be the date that I need for the victory party, but that Monica might not be reliable.
I ask Sis, “What do you mean by 'not reliable?'”
My sister says, “If Monica sees a chance to push forward her own agenda, she won't hesitate.”
I think things over. I must have a lady who's attractive enough to get me noticed by upper management. I must have a lady who can make at least small adult conversation with other adult ladies. I must then use the entry point to talk with upper management people and try to advance my own cause.
I then continue, “Okay, Monica gets us noticed. The male executive knows me, by sight. The male executive also notices the very flashy Monica, however, he can't try to make real moves on Monica, with his wife there. I get introduced to the big man's wife and I say hello. His wife then talks briefly with Monica, while I talk with the big man.”
Sis says, “Okay, what's Billy doing while you play your plan?”
“Billy is currently involved with a flashy little girl who will definitely get noticed twice. Once when the people see her and once when the people talk with her.”
Sis laughs and says, “Yes, she looks good and talks bad.”
I ask, “Sis, can you set me up with Monica?”
Sis asks, “Are you sure that you want Monica?”
I lecture my sister, “I have just delivered a major software item to a customer. If I'm gonna do something, I have to make my move now, while my triumph is still hot. If there's a better girl than Monica, so be it. However, you know what I need.”
Sis says, “You don't see Monica as a long term thing?”
“If she stays with me until we get a few blocks away from the party and then she leaps out of my car to run off with some punk, no problem at all.”
Sis sighs, “My brother the hopeless romantic.”
Later, Sis sets up a meeting with Monica. Monica is a flashy babe and she does have a little intelligence. I wouldn't want to be in a lifeboat with Monica, after the food ran out. However, for a one night social event, Monica should work.
Apparently, Monica feels that I'll work as her escort for a trip into the upper levels of local society and we have a date.
The evening of the victory party approaches.
I call Monica and set a time when I'll pick her up.
I then get a panic call from my sister, “Jason, Monica won't be there when you go to pick her up, she's going with Billy. However, I have a replacement for Monica. Do you remember Janice, from back in high school?”
I do remember Janice. Janice was one of the brain girls. She studied hard and got a scholarship, thus she's intelligent. At least, back in high school, Janice had okay looks. She didn't look as good as my sister, but then again, none of the other girls did either. I ask Sis, “How does Janice look?”
Sis laughs, “Better than Monica, a lot better. Jason. get your butt over here and talk to the lady.”
I'm puzzled. The Janice that I knew wasn't bad looking, but she didn't look as good as Monica. Ah well, it's only my job and my near term future at stake. Now that I have a date, I make a key phone call and then I get in my car and drive over to my parent's house. I knock on the door.
Sis answers, grinning like a fool and ushers me into the living room.
WHAMMO!
Janice stands in the center of the room. Her face and her hair look like movie star! Her outfit looks like the cover of a ladies fashion magazine. I just say, “Wow!”
Janice laughs, “I had a very important job interview this morning. My face and hair are courtesy of a session at the Modern Girl Beauty Salon. My outfit is rented from a fashion studio. The rest is just plain old Janice.”
