Book 3: of The Fantastic Adventures of Alex Shrine, for all science fiction and fantasy buffs.
Since the day one of the Realm People, Hogarth, appeared out of thin air, Alex has learned that the universe is far different from anything he imagined.
Mysterious forces endeavour to manipulate and prevent dangerous situations from spiralling out of control and causing a catastrophic change or even destruction of the cosmos.
Alex’s powers, Telepathy, infinite memory, telekinesis and the ability to form invisible impenetrable walls, are on the increase. He discovers, from a journal written, by one called Shanglo, that Shanglo himself was recruited by the mysterious forces to create the crystals, to be used against a malevolent race of sorcerers, known as Sorcrons.
Alex is astounded to learn that those same forces have focused their attention on him because of a unique gene inherited from a far distant ancestor.
Only a handful of beings in the entire universe have a similar gene that enables contact with the cosmic forces at large.
They, including Alex, have been assembled to assist in the battle against the Sorcrons.
Now, Cosmic messengers, or Pathways, have asked the group to enter Earth's fourth parallel dimension to assist a race of beleaguered Samurai like warriors in a battle against an invasion force.
Alex and his friends must help to prevent a crystal from falling into the hands of a particularly powerful Sorcron, Zadus, enabling him to become inter-dimensional.
From a book in his infinite memory, Alex is incredulous at the uncanny similarity of the battle to the 13th.century Mongol invasion of Japan; except in this case the invaders are assisted by dark forces
Excerpts:-
“A stream of time,” whispered Oda when Ogushi had finished speaking. “I find it difficult to comprehend, but it explains the strange appearance of our guests and I knew all along that things are not back to normal. The invading warlord is of great concern and you speak of dark forces assisting him and his horde. It is not good and I hope the sword, which you say has magical powers, can restore your warriors to their full Zen potential.
Oda looked disconcerted. “The beast you describe must be spawned from the depths of hell.”
“We think it more likely,” interrupted Shirrac, “That the beast was put in place by the mystical forces of the universe to protect the wizard’s blade. We don’t know the full story as yet.”
“And now it is all around us turning night into twilight with its strange glow,” said Oda. “I felt more at ease when we knew it as the sky spirit.”
“Do not worry my friend,” said Ogushi trying to allay Oda’s fears. “I truly believe that the beast, fearsome and hideous as it is, is on our side and even now watches over the blade.”
“Forgive me my king,” said the warrior who had spoken earlier. “The wizard’s blade is hidden in Lumar, city of light and life and is guarded by a mythical beast that would tear anyone limb from limb should they approach the blade. In any case, we know not where in Lumar it actually is. The great wizard hid it from those who would do great harm; our enemy the warlord of Taras for example.”
