*“. . . hundreds of people of African ancestry also walked the Trail of Tears.”—*Wilma Mankiller, Former Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation
The time is 1838. Inspired by true events, authentic slave narratives, and other historical accounts, Abraham's Well is the profoundly moving story of the Black Cherokee who, along with Native people, walked the Trail of Tears. It is the story of their forced migration from the Southeast to Indian Territory, modern day Oklahoma. Deftly crafted by award-winning author Sharon Ewell Foster, a true crossover artist, Abraham’s Well features strong female characters and reads as the firsthand account of a Black Cherokee girl, forced off her family’s land at gunpoint, who transforms to womanhood as she faces desperate circumstances. Deeply researched, it features a bibliography for readers.
Includes an introduction by John McCullough, President and CEO of Church World Services, 50% of all proceeds will be donated to benefit CWS' CROP Hunger Walk Program.
John Mort, Booklist - *Starred Review* “. . . simply told and moving, Foster's best work since her groundbreaking first novel, Passing by Samaria.”
Historical Novels Review - “. . . impressive, impeccably researched…deserves to be widely read; highly recommended."
Publishers Weekly - “. . . innovative and intriguing ... the rare historical novel that both entertains and educates.”
Romantic Times - ". . . readers will feel the heartbreak . . . but will also experience the joys**."**
faithfulreader.com - "This historical tale is one of Foster's best efforts, if not her best, and deserves a wide reading audience."
