A Tenpack of Trixies

Elena Argenti is a recycler – of human beings. She’s licensed to brainwash criminals, modify their bodies as much as she likes, and sell them off as toys. That’s all perfectly legal. What’s not legal is recycling innocent civilians; but Elena will do that, too, for the right price. She was almost caught by an investigate reporter working for Elena’s ex, Naomi Warren. But Elena got the jump on her; and now the reporter, Renee, has vanished.

Meanwhile, Elena has turned up in Naomi’s office with an unexpected gift from her latest line of Recycled Toys. The Trixies are hive-minded clones, identical down to the last cell; and they’re sure to be a hit at the next Toy Fair; but that’s six months away. Right now Elena is prepared to give Naomi an exclusive preview of the product, or at least that’s what she says. What she means is that she’s offering Naomi six months to figure out which one of the Trixies is Renee – and to try saving her.

No recyclee has ever recovered from a mindwipe, and Elena’s company sets the benchmark for her field. Naomi knows her task is hopeless. In fact, it’s worse than hopeless because the Trixies are almost certainly a trap, and she doesn’t know what they might do to her or her teammates. But with her ex-lover holding her current lover hostage, she has no choice but to attempt a rescue.
