Tara’s mind raced. Would he believe his ex-wife capable of such evil; of getting his brother locked up for rape just to lure him back to their hometown -- and into her arms? After all, they had grown up together; and had been married practically since they were out of high school. She knew Gideon still felt obligated to her to a large degree. Because of this, it was going to be that much more difficult to convince him that her heart was as black as Tara suspected.
Their love depended on her proving just that fact though. She realized that with certainty. Linda would always consider Gideon hers and they would never have peace unless and until he saw her for who she really was.
***
Tara slid beneath the covers, easing next to the hard length of him.
Gideon opened his striking, dark-brown eyes, practically hidden from view by the umbrella of his thick lashes. He sat up and rolled over, pinning her beneath him. ...
“Wow,” he said, as he rolled off of her and pulled her to him. “You should wake me up in the middle of the night more often,” he whispered, sleepily spooning her.
A few minutes later, Tara felt his rhythmic breathing, which signaled that he had gone back to sleep.
Tara’s mind wouldn’t let her rest. She decided to take matters into her own hands, fully realizing that what she planned to do tomorrow meant that she could lose Gideon forever.
