“Brokeback Mountain” by Annie Proulx is a short story. This story was first published in The New Yorker on 13th October, 1997. It was subsequently published in its expanded version in Proulx’s 1999 collection of short stories, “Close Range: Wyoming Stories.”

In 1998, “Brokeback Mountain” won an O. Henry Award. For publishing “Brokeback Mountain” The New Yorker won the National Magazine Award for Fiction in the same year.

“Close Range: Wyoming Stories” was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction in the year 2000.
