Janus Starson, regional commander of the Lothanasi, takes his job VERY seriously. As the agency tasked with shielding mortals from supernatural threats, the Lothanasi do their best to keep anything dangerous from crossing over between the Dreamlands and the physical realm. But when it comes to the Holly King -- also known as Saint Nicholas, the Faery Lord of the Yuletide -- Janus and his people have their work cut out for them. For Janus, stopping St. Nick's incursions has become an obsession; for the Lothanasi as a whole, it's an embarrassment. After a particularly humiliating confrontation with the Sidhe Lord, Janus is forcibly placed on leave the next time the Yuletide rolls around.

But just because Janus is off duty doesn't mean that the supernatural realm is going to leave him be. Quite unexpectedly, Janus is visited by the ghost of his father -- a tormented creature with a chilling message for his son: unless he heeds the lessons that the spirit world wishes to teach him, he is doomed to join his father in an eternity of bondage.

Written in the spirit and tradition of Charles Dickens' Christmas classic, A LIGHTBRINGER CAROL takes Janus and the reader on a voyage of discovery through Metamor City's past, present and future.
