Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) is a Danish writer, well-known mostly for his fairytales. Although he didn't like to be called "children's author", because created fairy tales for both kids and adults. Andersen's stories are popular all over the world. Everybody knows his "The Ugly Duckling", "The Snow Queen", "The Little Mermaid". Many cartoons and movies were created based on his tales. "A Great Grief" is a story about child's grief. Adults usually think that only they can feel the real sorrow, but small kids are different story and they cannot understand what is a real grief. Anderson shows us that this is not true. The story consists of two parts. The first one tells us the prehistory, where we get to know the dog named Puggie and it's mistress. The second one describes Puggie's funeral, organized by the children. Read the story and find out who suffered most on this funeral.
