Floyd D. Sims is the author of this book, Twenty-One Years around the World was born in Edenville, Michigan, during the Depression, as driving by himself at the age of eleven, after moving to Saginaw, Michigan, he had three paper routes, all worked at a gas station on his nights off at two bowling allies setting pin. He graduated first in his class at Author Hill Trade School as an engine draftsmen and was hired by a local consulting firm, after two years join the military in 1948, was promoted to M/SSgt. Const. Surveyor the age of twenty! He was the only one in the service at that time and held that honor for seventeen years. He has crossed the equator twelve times, has been to fifty-four island s from Iceland, the Caribbean to Bora Bora, and has been to thirty-one countries and still counting. He has been with the polar bears to the Hudson Bay, swayed with the piranhas in the Amazon and the croc in the Nile, woke with a tarantula in his tent, got hit by a scorpion, and a near miss by rattlesnake. He drove the president of Panama and his two guards to the top of Tobago Island, met his brother two years later but had no connection to the previous meeting of the president. We hit it off and were soon going hunting, fishing, and going to cockfights. The president’s brother didn’t fish like we do and was having dinner in a hotel one evening just ten feet away from the emperor of Ethiopia. “Hale Salassie!” Spent a week in Panama’s Alcatraz Island all inclusive, but not as an inmate, bought bushel of shrimp for two packs of cigarettes from John Wayne’s shrink boat fleet off the coast of Panama, was the guest of honor at a small island in the San Blas Islands, with a full dress parade through the village. Could have become a millionaire long before his time if these casinos in Reno hadn’t changed their rules, had system that you could not lose! Currently living in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with his fourth wife, Deanna, of twenty years, at the age of eighty-four (going on ninety) and still has a bucket list.
